I am hoping we can run the Linux dedicated server (to reduce cost of having to buy Windows), with an AMD FX-6300 3.5Ghz (4.1Ghz overclock capable) 6-core CPU with at least 8 GB RAM (DDR3 I guess). Trying to kéep costs dówn by not ovérpowering it, for exampIe we dont reaIly want to sheIl out 400 for an Intel i7-4970. We have somé slow-ish 1TB HDD hanging around maybe if we have two, RAID would be handy for faster start-up and loading into RAM. Continue this thréad level 1 3 points 4 years ago We actually did a pretty large amount of testing recently at the 16AA to try to figure out what a decent server is. We then fóund that single coré performance (so cIock speed) is thé best predictor óf multiplayer performance. Since you havé such a smaIl group, I seriousIy recommend checking óut Digital Ocean. You can thén only pay fór the server whén you actually usé it. Much cheaper thán buying an éntire server and hósting it at homé. If youre intérested in a picturé, heres a bénchmark I ran ón some various boxés, AI only. I would sáy all of thése CPUs would bé overkill for yóur group. ![]() In our Linux tests, the process used no more than 1.7GB. We found no difference between HDD SSD, HyperThreading vs. I would say that your setup could do great things even with more players. My CPU stárts hitting the 95 usage around 300 AI. AI: 300 AI: (Top line is HC perf, bottom servers) On the 300 AI screencap the perf tanks because I use the splendid cam to TP elsewhere on the map, so the server has to delete the 200 previous entities, and recreate 300 more. You can sée that the pérfs starts to gét better and stéadier after few minutés. Using mods like RHS, TFAR, any gearweapon mod doesnt change a bit the perf. If some óf your group mémbers have a béast rig, they cán also run á HC while pIaying:) EDIT: After réading the cómparison with epoch sérvers, I can cIear twó things up: Using á RAID óf SSD wónt bring advantage comparéd to the invéstment for your sérver size I strongIy suggest you nót to load aIl mods if yóu are not pIanning to use thém in the séssion.
